The Perfect Place
As many of you know, The New Classical Academy is running out of space. Our leased modular on leased land has served us well, but in order to fully realize our vision for the school we need our own building. A permanent building of our own design has always been part of the plan, and we are now ready to start the process. The first step is finding the perfect place. We are looking for 3 to 5 acres with easy access to main roads, in the north Buncombe/Weaverville area, with a large flat space for the school and a large flat space for playing fields. Spread the word, keep your eye out, and let anyone and everyone know- we're looking for land! |

Meet the Staff: Leah Hyde
Leah is an Asheville native who grew up in a busy house with a big family. Having five brothers and a sister she was constantly surrounded by kids of all ages. She graduated from Asheville High School and spent one year at UNC Charlotte. She is taking a year off to work, and is reapplying to college for next year. When she gets a few moments of spare time she enjoys dancing, sewing, and reading. At The New Classical Academy Leah runs the cooking club, does craft projects, teaches reading in small groups and individual tutoring sessions, does office work, and she is directing our current musical play. Wow! She is really a multi-talented young woman. |
School News
The school year is in full swing. All of the students have finally found their way around their classroom, their boxes, their cubbies and their assignment sheets. They have also figured out their favorite teachers, their favorite activities, and their favorite thing to bring for snack. Now is when the real work starts to happen. When children feel safe and comfortable, when they know they are loved and they love in return, true learning takes place. The projects they do now engage them longer and on a deeper level. When a visitor came through recently I was so proud to show him our school. From four square to piano duets, from study hall to model building, the students were all fully engaged. |
