Enrollment

There are still a few spaces available in all classes for the fall 2007-2008 school year and we will be accepting applications throughout the summer. We even have openings in the home school enrichment program, so if your student is looking for a community to join, we may be the place. Call 658-8317 for more information or to schedule a visit at the school this summer.

First Year Success

Our first full school year is over and it was an incredible success. As part of our effort to continually improve, we surveyed both our parents and students to see what they had to say about our school. Here are the results:

90% of the parents surveyed say they would recommend TNCA to other families. Here are a few comments from our parents:

"My child is enthusiastic about going to school and learning. She is a student, but is also allowed to explore, learn and play as a child."

"I think the school is great. I love the different options in attendance and the freedom to be an individual and have fun. Also outdoor play is by far more than any other school."

"My child smiles and loves to learn now!"

Comments from students:

"I like the intensiveness of the work, which helps us get ready for harder work."

"More history!"

"I love this school!"

It's not a popularity contest, but Ashley was the most popular teacher with an average score of 9.1 (on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best) from her middle school students. Way to go Ashley!

Summer Camp

We still have space in all the camps. This week's theme, "Art Across the Ages" promises to be full of big messy fun art projects. The week of the 4th of July will feature more pirate fun than you can imagine, including buried treasure, pirate names, and a final pirate show-down after we hoist our homemade pirate flags and don our tin foil swords. Finally, Harry Potter is all the rage this July 9-13 when students will be sorted into their houses, attend potions class and decipher Latin incantations. Call 658-8317 or download the enrollment form on our website: www.thenewclassicalacademy.org

Tooting Our Own Horn

On May 30th at the MountainBizWorks Women's Business Conference, Kate was awarded the "Entrepeneur of the Year." It was such an honor to receive this award in front of so many other women business owners. MountainBizWorks, formerly Micro Mountain Enterprises, helped us in so many ways through the process of writing a business plan and starting our business. If you are starting your own business and would like help from people who have been there, give us a call. Kate and I are committed to helping other people realize their dreams, as we couldn't have done it ourselves without help.

Per Your Requests...

Responding to the surveys, here are just a few of the things we have planned for this fall: a big school garden spearheaded by our new teacher Sarah, musical history plays on westward expansion and "Theseus and the Minotaur", more Friday projects especially for middle schoolers led by Leah our new assistant, and more music and singing for our many talented students.
