In the News
Kelly's presentation to the Weaverville Town Council was covered by both the "Asheville Daily Planet" and the "Weaverville Tribune", giving The New Classical Academy some great free press. After the presentation we were given the opportunity to tour the facility with the Weaverville Fire Marshall and our general contractor. Unfortunately, the community center space was not all we hoped it would be. There extent of the renovations makes it infeasible for our use. So the space search continues, and we are confident that we will have a space secured by May 1, and that it will not need major repairs!

Friday Class News
The home school enrichment class has really hit its stride, with the students working together on multiple projects. The school store is an amazing success; the microscopes are back in use for the study of monerans and protists (ask the kids what those are), and our history timelines are growing in scope and detail. The artists in our midst have enjoyed copying works by Kandinsky and Georgia O'Keefe, which they have proudly displayed in the classroom.

Distance Learning Program
We have spaces still available in our distance learning program which is especially attractive to home school students. The student attends school three days a week and completes their lessons at home on the other two. Quite a few home schooled families have made the jump and enrolled in this program. Although legally you are not a home schooler, this is an excellent way to continue to enjoy many of the benefits of home schooling like individualized learning and family time while being released from the responsibility of the academic aspects of your children's lives. It's easy to home school K-2, but many families stop home schooling as their children near middle school. Our high academic offerings, access to incredible teachers, and a variety of adults to explain different subjects make The New Classical Academy an excellent choice.

Meet the Staff
Over the next few months we will start to introduce you to our staff. Since Kelly is writing this, she gets to go first! Kelly Homolka was raised in northern Virginia and then went to California for college. She majored in Religious Studies and then went on to earn an elementary teaching credential from the University of California at Santa Barbara. In college she met her husband Gregg, who is a general contractor. They have three wonderful children, Emily, Daisy and Frank and one spoiled dog named Coco. Kelly has worked for the YMCA, as the Director of Children's Services for a homeless shelter, and as an educator for many community and home school classes. Her hobbies are traveling, hiking, skiing, eating and reading the classics. Kelly and her family recently moved into their new home at 27 Lakeshore Drive in Weaverville, and she hopes to stay there for many years while she realizes her dream of opening The New Classical Academy.
