The New Classical Academy is a new private school founded by Kate Hyde and Kelly Homolka. Our opening date will be the fall of 2006 in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina in Weaverville, near Asheville. The New Classical Academy is a private, independent school for kindergarten through eighth grade. We offer classical education in a hands-on environment. Our philosophy encompasses active, cooperative, multi-age and self-directed learning, access to quietude and the outdoors and individual attention for assessment. The school will be alive with real science experiments, dramatic presentations, debates, group art projects, music, work-in-progress timelines, classic literature, and manipulative math. Latin, Greek, and modern languages will be integral to our program, and the arts will be part of every topic we study. We will add one grade per year through the twelfth grade. Kate Hyde and Kelly Homolka have started the one day a week home school enrichment class this year. Every Friday we teach a group of 22 students, kindergarten through 7th grade. We cover a full day of geography, history, science, logic, manipulative math and more.
