Dear friend of The New Classical Academy,

As we embark on our third school year we are very excited to be announcing our first ever fund raising event. The time has come to begin raising money for a permanent building, as in just three short years we have outgrown our space. The event we have chosen is an exciting one, which we feel is worthy of all of our effort and attention.

In Judaism, there is a belief that one good turn can change the world. The Jewish people call it tikkun olam (repair of our world). This year, our school has decided to partner with two other area schools, New City Christian School and Maccabi Academy, and with a little help from our students, will share this idea of tikkun olam with our entire Western North Carolina community.

Hands of Hope is a four-month long project that involves students, learning inside and outside the classroom, about what it means to lend a helping hand to those in need. During the fall, the students at these three participating schools will study a focus area of community need. Each school will "adopt" an area non-profit agency to learn about their specific mission and how even a single child can make a huge difference.

The New Classical Academy will partner with the Animal Compassion Network to learn more about their mission of promoting the respectful, humane treatment of animals, and to providing education and adoption services to the community.

On Sunday, December 21st, 2008 it will all come together during the first annual Hands of Hope family concert from 1pm - 4pm at the Thomas Wolfe auditorium. The benefit concert itself will feature Billy Jonas with special guests Secret Agent 23 Skidoo and two-time Grammy Award winners Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer.

But the event is so much more than a concert. Outside the auditorium, each school will have a booth, demonstrating their work with their partnering agency. Students themselves will be working to raise awareness for their "adopted" agencies as we all come together for the benefit of our greater community. Your generous sponsorship of this event will not only help our school financially, but will help us fulfill one of our major curriculum goals of giving back to our community.
